winding down at work

George's first birthday party was a blast.  That kid totally enjoyed his party!  He sat in the high chair for over an hour, eating first an entire kid's pizza and then a huge slice of cake!  He loved opening the presents and cried when they would take one toy away to open another.  He seemed to enjoy all the attention and the event.  It was very nice having the Funaros come along and we all got along! 

Roger and Yolanda and kids came up weekend of Dec. 7 & 8.  We had a real nice visit, the bummer was little George got clocked in the face, big accident.  His lip was busted right open.  Ouch.

Getting the christmas shopping down little by little.  I always feel I should get folks more, but you only have so much resource.  It's hard to stop with the girls. 

Almost the end of this fall term.  What a year.  Looking forward to 10 days of no problems at work.

Really enjoyed going out to El Meson with Cheri & Phil last night, they are nice people. 

update

Not doing very well with the gratitude lists or the updates.  The big decision turned out not to be the WIC position (not enough money) but Deputy Director of Student Nutrition.  I decided that time off was more important to me at this time of my life than any other factor, including work drama.

BTW, the Lion King was fantastic.  Emily slept through the entire second act, but everyone else totally enjoyed it. 

Still working on attitude and not getting drawn into petty backstabbing. 

Shipped off the Galle-Bishop package Monday.  It's disconcerting to call and hear your son and his wife arguing over not taking the phone. 

Very dry weather, no snow at all.  Going down to Las Cruces this weekend for George's first birthday! 

The Lion King

Tomorrow we are going to see the Lion King at Popejoy.  I think I am more excited than anyone, this is Emily's 6 year old birthday present.  In spite of it all, we are still getting along.

Making some big decisions for myself.  I did get an offer as a WIC nutritionist, now I have to flip the coin and make the decision to go for it or to stay put.  The money is less, a major factor. 

It is disconcerting at work, knowing that funding is going to be reduced but not knowing how or where. 

gratitude

I'm taking a page from Oprah and trying out a new tactic - a daily gratitude list.  My goal is 5 things per day and not to repeat. 

Today I am very grateful for a hot cup of coffee first thing in the morning, I am grateful for the beautiful fall weather, I am grateful for my husband taking care of the weekend plans, I am grateful that I have a job, I am grateful for my warm bed.

so you try and help someone only to be told you don't know what you are doing?  just shut up and sit down - that's what people want me to do.  speak up and get ridiculed.  try to visit your grandkids - forget it. 

work drama getting me down

when I took this job I never thought I'd be worrying about getting fired or such and wonder at how people maneuver to get their way.  so the way to rise to the top it seems is to throw a fit, be loud and rude, file a complaint, a grievance, get other people to quit, harrass, bully.  Dave quits, I ask for a stipend to run the pools until a new manager is hired and am told that instead the supervision of the guards goes to a faculty and running the pools to a lifeguard?  huh?  wonder who that will be....take a long time to guess, well I'm as beat down as it gets.

wow time goes by quick.  last day of summer term and getting ready for fall term, lots of chaos for sure next week at work!

finally getting rain, too little too late, garden not producing like it should this year.  cutworms got into the squash plants, too little rain for the beans.  basil is only thing thriving.

mom and dad coming in soon, aug 29 to sept. 8, I hope they have fun and stay healthy while they are here.

New Day

It is so beautiful this morning, what a shame to be at work inside, but better than being unemployed I guess.  Still shaken from that horrible interview yesterday, most unpleasant.  I wonder if my co-worker will have a job this fall?  Yesterday was little Mark's 3rd birthday, sadly, he didn't even know who I was on the phone.  Just have to remember I'll always be the stranger in their lives. 

summer time

Trying to keep a positive outlook.  Had a bummer work day, had to be "investigated" as part of an employee complaint, very stressful situation.  Had a good weekend, played golf and relaxed.  Starting to pick a few green beans out of the garden, watering every day.  Have some squash plants coming up, no gophers so far!  Going to the opera friday night, hope I can stay awake, it's a long one and a late night.

Apricots in Glory

Thanks to a mild spring and no late freezes, my apricot tree bloomed and actually had fruit, I believe this is the first year since maybe 1988?  I froze 12 quarts, ate a tremendous amount, gave away 6 huge bags, then made up 22 little jars and 14 big jars of jam.  Apricots all gone.  Now I'm looking daily at the garden - saw a couple squash blossoms and a baby zuchini this weekend, beans are growing but no real production yet.  Should be picking by end of July.....next year I'm going to dig in at least 4 bags of peat into thata garden soil, too lazy this year and now paying the consequences .

Took a golf clinic this weekend, hopefully it will get my swing back on plane.

wow a month already.  the trip was fun, lots of driving but most of it was enjoyable, the only part that was not fun was the actual drive into Yosemite Valley, way too many cars and people in the Valley, but Yosemite was very interesting to visit.  I finally got to see those giant trees before they fall down.

finally began to rain in Santa Fe, growing grass in the yard this year.  big news, apricot tree produced, picking them up every day.

getting over my hurt feelings, decided just to keep posting to their email and leave them alone (John and crew)

2 days until vacation

I am very ready to get out of town.  Wish I was leaving tomorrow.  Got up to early morning wind.  Took meal to Buckley's yesterday, today begin cooking for St. E's.

Can't get over hurt feelings though over visiting John this summer.  I guess Yvonne has me on the "do not visit" list, maybe she is pissed I don't buy MK?  Who knows.  Feel like Marie on Everyone Loves Raymond.  I wanted to visit John and the kids in July and was specifically told no, they were too busy, then found out they invited all kinds of people to visit, just not me. 

Roger worried about his supervisor leaving so soon after he was hired, I told him to apply for that job!

leaving for Yosemite

Can't believe it's been 9 months since I've posted.  Following up, I did complete the bathroom project, painted the bedroom, got new carpet put in the 3 bedrooms and a maple-style laminate on the rest of the floors.  We need to paint, going to put that on the fall agenda to try and build up the cash reserves.

health wise, fighting allergies again.  fires again, this time smoke coming up from the Gila Wilderness.

leaving for a major road trip Friday, will try to keep postings current.  Going to go to Yosemite via Utah and Nevada, hoping for good weather and good times.
